I Can / I Can't - Superhero Lesson
What does "can" mean? "Can" = you are able to do something "Can't" (cannot) = you are NOT able to do something
Grammar structure:
- I/You/He/She/We/They + can + verb (base form)
- I/You/He/She/We/They + can't + verb (base form)
No "s" on the verb! ✓ He can fly / ✗ He cans flies
Superhero examples:
Superman: ✓ Superman can fly ✓ He can lift heavy things ✓ He can see through walls ✗ He can't see through lead
Spider-Man: ✓ Spider-Man can climb walls ✓ He can shoot webs ✓ He can swing between buildings ✗ He can't fly (he swings, but doesn't fly!)
Batman: ✓ Batman can fight ✓ He can drive the Batmobile ✓ He can use gadgets ✗ He can't fly (he's just a human!)
Wonder Woman: ✓ Wonder Woman can fight ✓ She can fly ✓ She can use her lasso ✓ She can run very fast
The Flash: ✓ The Flash can run super fast ✓ He can travel through time ✗ He can't fly
Questions with "can":
"Can Superman fly?" → "Yes, he can" / "No, he can't" "Can Batman fly?" → "No, he can't" "Can you swim?" → "Yes, I can" / "No, I can't"
Practice - Talk about yourself:
